Free Movie Review Resource from Focus on the Family
Have you ever wanted to see a movie but wanted to know more?
Here is an amazing resource through Focus on the Family; it’s called Plugged In.
Plugged In provides excellent movie reviews. Most movies will be available on their Home Page. If you cannot locate the movie, type in the movie title using their “search” feature.
I did this recently. Tricia and I went to see a movie called “Nefarious.” (Click here to check out the review provided by pluggedin.com.)
Nefarious is no blockbuster. You will not be impressed with high-quality graphics or amazing chase scenes. The movie is just over 90 minutes long. It sheds light on demon possession. The lead character is Sean Patrick Flanery. Sean plays a dual role. He plays the demon, Nefarious, who occupies the body of serial killer Edward Wayne Brady. Sean also plays Brady. Most of the movie is an interview between the demon and a psychiatrist named Dr. James Martin, played by Jordan Belfi.
This is not a movie for children to see. The reason it has an R rating is because of the “scene” at the end. If you want to better understand how Satan uses demons to “steal, kill and destroy,” go see this movie. Here is one line from the movie. The demon, Nefarious, says…
“Proving that we achieved our goal. Slowly. With your movies, your TV, and your media. We desensitized you. Redirected your worldview. To the point that you can’t recognize evil when it’s right in front of your face.”
Can you recognize evil when it’s right in your face?
The whole time I was watching this movie, I thought about the authority Jesus has over any demon. It made me appreciate what Jesus did in Luke 4.
Luke 4:31-37 (NIV2011) 31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him. 36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.
During the movie, Edward Wayne Brady asked his psychiatrist how he could get out. How he could get away from this thing? Who had possessed him? I shouted in my mind, “It’s through the name of Jesus!” That was true then; that’s still true today.
